The Chapter Place in Boscodon: A Space for Dialogue and Spirituality

The chapter house is essential to the monks' lives, a space where they gather every day to read the chapters of the Rule of Saint Benedict. The abbot, the abbey's spiritual leader, invites his brothers there to discuss the daily tasks and concerns of the monastery. The architecture of this space is designed so that the abbot, placed in the center, is visible and audible to all.

A peculiarity of the order of Chalais is that the lay brothers, those lay brothers responsible for manual work and secular affairs, can attend the chapter meetings. Unlike other orders, where they often remain apart in a gallery, the lay brothers of Chalais have the privilege of participating in these exchanges, listening and observing directly, without being separated by a door or bays.
