Boscodon: The Archives Tower, a Place of Memory and Archiving
Adjacent to the abbey church and following the chapter house, the archives tower once housed the Abbey's precious documents. Seized during the Revolution, these archives are now kept in the Departmental Archives of the Hautes-Alpes.
This tower, actually the end of the monks' wing, fits in perfectly with the rest of the building. From the cloister, there is no change in plan or break in the architecture to distinguish the tower from the main wing. However, it stands out for its height, overlooking the building by a small floor.
The interior structure of the tower has remained virtually intact, providing a rare glimpse of the original state of the monks' wing. In contrast, the rest of the wing has been altered several times, both internally and externally.
The tower houses three levels: the sacristy, the abbot's cell, and of course, the archives.
