The officers' wing: remains, restoration and visitor reception

The officers' wing is the first building you come across when you arrive from the car park, adjacent to the church. In 1975, during the first excavations on the Boscodon site, remains of an ancient convent building were uncovered. Subsequent excavating campaigns revealed the existence of a cellar on the site of this wing, as well as medieval aqueducts used to carry water to the cloister.  

In the 15th or 16th century, this wing was transformed to house the lodgings of the 'officer monks', religious men with specific responsibilities in the monastery (prior, cellarer, cantor, chamberlain, etc.). The building was raised and restored in 1994-1995. Thanks to the lintels and window frames found during the excavations, the upper floor was restored in a style close to the original, although no graphic representation of this floor has survived.

Today, the officers' wing houses a bookshop, where visitors can discover and purchase a wide selection of books, thus delving a little deeper into the history of Boscodon.
