Monument aux morts du Maquis Morvan aux Gorges de Montclus

The Blème torrent has cut narrow gorges at the junction of the Beaumont mountains to the south and Barret to the north. After the Normandy landings, resistance fighters rose up and, as at Montclus, set up ambushes to hinder German troop movements. The Werhmacht soldiers suffered heavy losses in men and material. The eighty maquisards were under the command of André Martin, head of the Rosans gendarmerie brigade and deputy to Commandant Morvan. In retaliation, the Germans set fire to the village of Montclus on June 21, 1944. Every year, the Amicale du Maquis Morvan and the commune of Montclus organize a commemoration of these battles.
