The Swing in the Mountains festival, together with the talented pianist Jo Kaiat and the groovy-voiced Freddie Hall, would like to pay tribute to this great artist who died on 24 November 2025: Jimmy Cliff.
Born in 1948 in St. James, Jamaica, under the name James Chambers. His first musical influences were the idols of his childhood, and as is often the case, they came from the United States: the great stars of soul music, but also Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon and many others. He released his first single at the age of 14, after going to Leslie Kong's shop and singing acapella a song he had just written. The attempt proved fruitful, as Mr Kong immediately had him record Hurricane Huttie, a song with lyrics about a hurricane that ravaged everything in its path...
